Discounts for Military!

We try our best to have at least four family days scheduled per month. It’s an achievable goal with the plethora of playtime opportunities available in the area. If we paid an admission fee every time, we’d have to take out a small loan just to cover recreation. There are deals out there, if you’re aware. Once our family decides on place to visit, we use a research engine and search on the key words: military discount and the name of the attraction. If none show up, then we search on: coupons and the name of the attraction. Even if we’re unable to find a discount on the internet, we always ask the admission counter if a military discount is offered before handing over payment. What we’ve discovered so far:

Anheuser Busch offers up to four free admission passes per calendar year to any of their parks. San Diego’s Sea World qualifies. To learn more, visit the website: http://www.herosalute.com/

Knott's Berry Farm pays tribute to past and present U.S. armed forces personnel during Veteran's Month (November) with free park admission for them and a guest. Up to six additional tickets can be purchased for only $15 each. Military ID or DD214 required for discount. Although this year’s promotion has not been advertised yet, you can visit their website for discount updates: www.knotts.com

La Brea Tar Pits offers active duty military and their family free admission. The Tar Pits are located in downtown Los Angeles and offers a unique insight into our earth’s past. For more info: http://www.tarpits.org

Although not advertised on its website, Chuck was offered free admission to The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and I was charged the $6 child’s rate. Website: http://www.reaganlibrary.com/

We’ve also enjoyed The California Science Center (www.californiasciencecenter.org), and The Getty (http://www.getty.edu/museum). Both offer free admission to all.

Each month, we pick up FORCE magazine from a FSS marketing location to see what Tickets and Tours are offering for savings. We’ve purchased tickets for Universal Studios, Medieval Times, and Disneyland in this manner. We also check out what Outdoor Recreation is offering. Alex & Chuck LOVED their Ocean Kayaking excursion and our entire family went on one of their whale watching trips.

The easiest and cheapest way to keep our kids entertained is to ensure we’re around for the free movies and outdoor activities the Community Center and Youth Programs sponsor.

However you decide to spend your time while living in the LA area, know that the opportunities for sun, fun and recreation are boundless.

Until next time,

Katie H.
